Using the right colors makes or breaks a Minecraft skin. Learn how to build a pixel-art color palette, add shading, and pick colors that work at 64×64.

Why Color Matters at 64×64

Minecraft skins are tiny. At 64×64 pixels, each color choice is amplified — a bad color stands out immediately. Good pixel art palettes are small (6-16 colors), carefully chosen, and have clear light-to-dark progressions.

The 3-Shade Rule

For each main color in your design, create three variants: a base color, a shadow (10-20% darker), and a highlight (10-20% lighter). This gives skins a 3D appearance without complex gradients.

Using the Hex Input
